Agape wording

Fifth Sunday of Easter, Year B
Inspired by Acts 8:26-40, 1 John 4:7-21, John 15:1-8

Opening prayers or Call to worship

Lord,

We are never alone here
Because we are a part of all those around us.
We are never alone here
Because we stand on the shoulders of all those who worshipped before.
We are never alone here
Because we are with you,
Joined to you
In your love

We stand with an army of believers,
The people of love
And sing your praise.

Amen.

Intercession

Lord,

Open our eyes to the world we live in.

As we watch the news and read our newspapers today,
as we hear of wars and famines and economies in chaos,
as we read of scientific discoveries and political fixes and public unrest,
we need you to guide our thoughts.
Open our eyes to see, our minds to understand and our hearts to love.

As we go about our lives, our jobs, our shopping,
as we walk or drive the streets of our towns,
as we chat and hear the stories of
surprises and shocks, joys and heartbreaks, feuds and reconciliations,
we need you to guide our thoughts.
Open our eyes to see, our minds to understand and our hearts to love.

As we spend our time with our families and our friends,
as we listen to their tales and hear their jokes,
as we puzzle over their annoying ways and strange habits,
as we fight with them and make up with them
we need you to guide our thoughts.
Open our eyes to see, our minds to understand and our hearts to love.

As we meet here together,
as we worship in your name,
we bring before you all our cares and our joys, our hopes and our fears,
yesterday’s consequences and today’s news
and we lay them silently before you.
[brief pause]
[especially we think of… or brief pause]

We stand before you as people who know too much and understand too little,
and so we lay it all at your feet, asking you to
Open our eyes to see,
Open our minds to understand,
and most importantly of all
Open our hearts to love.

Amen

All the prayers are free to use but I would happily accept a coffee to keep me going!
